Lily Goh's Grad Shoot

Updated: May 19, 2021

Can’t sleep 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just realise that we didn’t do any debrief about the shoot. 🙈 We were too brain fried 😬

I think it was a good feeling having had taken the whole grad shoot under my control [not counting the morning shoot], given that I didn’t really prepare anything at all, although looking at the poses from time to time. I prayed too. I realise that I was communicating and directing her at a very comfortable pace and actually successfully completed the afternoon grad shoot within two hours without looking at my watch.

Before reaching the tree I was eyeing, we chatted before we resumed (without you). I asked her some short Qs how long it took her to complete her Uni studies. I then told her I was happy she finally graduated after 6 long years. Part time studies. Told her I stopped at diploma 😅 briefly explained why I stopped at that level.

I also ensured that I showed her pics instantly throughout the shoot. I also explained to her why I chose that tree, because it made everything look like she is overseas.

Maybe because she’s Deaf, I was able to strike a conversation in btw the shoot with 5 mins interval.

It made me wonder like if I am a hearing photographer, every shoot would be much more fun because of conversations in between. What a pity. Even gestures to the clients can be taxing and vice versa, especially when they aren’t used to reading MY gestures. Just a thought.

Anyway, may need to look for a better camera strap that can be detachedached. I almost dropped my camera during the shoot because the strap was slightly too short whenever I put it aside to sign! 😱

I even explained to her I was shooting through the leaves so she knew what I was doing.

And I think telling a client to walk no.of steps works like magic, way better than pointing to either direction to move. Telling her specifically which part of the body to tilt towards only head / only body helped a lot! Less mistakes. Using you as a visual target for her to look at, works like magic too, especially for a person with poor sense of direction.

It was really a blessing in disguise!!! Because the next day, it was raining in the afternoon 😱

Glad we made it work somehow. You started by pushing ahead regardless of whether the shoot was on or not.

And since she revealed that she is from the West (jialat leow, highly unlikely to be postponed🤦🏻‍♀️), I was thinking like why didn’t we just get going... we could still chat along the way la... like just being a gambler by walking and see what we could find because I had a feeling we could somehow make it work by finding some shades. I’ve been watching Antelope’s behind the scenes shoots on IGstories and most of them were done under shades which has been quite a pattern!!! So no harm trying🤷🏻‍♀️and we did it! With 3 parrots nonetheless 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🤦🏻‍♀️

But again... regardless of the clients, striking a continuous conversation is still important. Whenever I Google about how to improve my directing and posing or making clients feel at ease, conversations come up as the top priority to make them relax 🤦🏻‍♀️ No other way, not even being a very hyper clown to the kids helps.

How leh, boss?! CMI

Mom:

Willing to try what you suggest

Tell tale signs

You realised since Megan & Levisha

God has been slowly opening doors for you to communicate to your clients bit by bit

He is showing you how much you can do when you trust and depend on Him.

Don’t doubt God or yourself.

He will never forsake you.

You have to run to Him everyday.

Not just for shoots.
